The UNEA wants to launch a new global and legally binding plastics agreement. A draft resolution to this effect was adopted by consensus in Nairobi on March 2, 2022. In the view of the UN Environment Program, the resolution is one of the most important environmental agreements since the Paris Climate Agreement. A corresponding negotiating committee is to draw up a convention by 2024. So the mills grind slowly, but they grind and the plastic waste problem is now being tackled worldwide.
